Getting Started With Handy EMR
In your Desktop:
1. Download
Handy EMR software.
2. After
downloading the software, simply double click on the Handy EMR icon. Click “OK” on the message box “Confirm Add”,
and then close the “Palm Quick Install” window by clicking on the “X” button.
3. Hot Sync
your device and Handy EMR will be installed automatically in your PDA.
In your PDA:
1. After the
license agreement, the first screen to appear is “User Information”. In this screen, please enter your name and
title the way you want it to appear in your prescriptions and visit notes. Also, enter your password then click “OK”.
2. Tap on the
“Enter new patient” button, here you will be able to enter and save patient’s
information. Once information are entered, click on
“OK”. An external PDA keyboard can facilitate data entry.
3. Tap on the
patient name on the list then click “Visit” button. Tap on “CC” for chief complaint and then
select from the right list box the complaint.
You can use the small or large scroll to go through the list. After the chief complaint, select “History”
then enter duration, frequency etc. You
can do full H&P using the drop down box on the right upper corner of your
PDA or a short visit note by tapping the “SOAP” button on the lower right
corner. You can also just enter part of
H&P as you wished.
4. Once the
“Visit” note is saved, you can access your notes in the “Chart” button or your
medication list using the “Meds.” button.
You can also print patient’s current medication using the “Meds.”
button.

Handy
EMR User's Guide
CHART
1. Select patient name from the list.
2. Select “Chart”.
3. Previously saved visit notes, messages will be available
in chronological order.
4. Saved notes cannot be modified but addendum can be made
through visit notes or messages.
EDIT
1. Highlight the text that needs to be cut or copied.
2. In menu bar, select “Edit”.
3. Select copy, cut or paste.
4. Put cursor to where you wish the text to be paste.
5. In menu bar, select “Edit”.
6. Select “paste”.
KEYBOARD
1. Select “k” button and a keyboard will come out.
2. Select done when finish.
MEDICATION
1. Select patient name from the list.
2. Select “Meds”.
3. Allergies and Current Medications will appear.
4. Allergies and medications are entered in “Visit” notes
and cannot be edited from this list.
5. To update allergies or medication list, go to “Visit”
notes.
6. Make necessary changes then select update.
MEMOS
1. From palm, go to Memos under All or
2. Select Memos.
3. Select the visit note, message or prescription that you
would like to print.
4. Select beam to printer if applicable or print through
your desktop.
MEMORY
1. Amount of notes saved per patient, depends on several
factors.
2. Check with your palm handheld manual for further
information regarding memory.
MESSAGE
1. Select patient name from the list.
2. Select “Msg”.
3. Enter message.
4. Select “OK”.
PASSWORD
1. Select “User” from the menu bar.
2. Select “Information”.
3. Enter Name, Title and password.
4. Select “OK”.
PATIENT
1. Select “Enter new patient”.
2. Enter patient information.
3. Select “OK”.
4. To edit patient information, select patient name from the
list.
5. Select “Data”.
6. Select “Edit”.
PRESCRIPTION
1. Prescriptions can be printed from Current Medication List
in “Meds” or from “Plan” in “Visit”.
2. Select patient name from the list.
3. Select “Meds”.
4. Select Exit then choose “YES”.
5. Go to Memo in your Palm.
6. Select beam to printer if applicable or print through
your desktop.
PRINT
1. Go to All or
2. Select Memo.
3. Select beam to printer if applicable or print through
your desktop.
PROBLEM LIST
1. Select patient name from the list.
2. Select “Chart”.
3. Select problem list.
4. Enter problem list by writing it or selecting item from
“Show” list.
VISIT
1. Select patient name from the list.
2. Select “Visit”.
3. Select from list or enter text manually.
4. Tap on “SOAP” or full “H&P” popup icon to proceed.
5. Once done, select “View” from popup list to view the
whole visit notes.
6. Confirm the data in “View” form, then select Save, Print,
Both or Cancel.
SEARCH
1. Select “Search”.
2. Enter patient Last, First and Middle name.
3. Select search.
4. If patient found, choose from “Chart”, “Data”, “Visit” or
“Message”.
SHORT CUTS
1. Go to preferences (Prefs) in your palm.
2. Under personal, select ShortCuts
3. Select New, and then enter ShortCut name and text.
4. Refer to your handheld manual.
